Jon Edward Spiker's Obituary
Jon Edward Spiker, age 66, of North Royalton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025. Born on July 15, 1959, to Edna and the late John Spiker, Jon lived a life marked by his love of the Lord, his devotion and love to his family, and his gratitude for his friendships.
Jon was the beloved husband of Janet Spiker, with whom he shared 40 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of laughter, resilience, and deep connection. He was a proud and loving father to Leah (Nick) Verdino, Kristen (Matt) Myers, and Jonathan Spiker, and a cherished grandfather to John and Ava Verdino, Tucker and Priscilla Myers. His family was his greatest joy, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and the love they shared.
Jon grew up in Kirtland, Ohio, in a small family friendly neighborhood on Racoon Hill with his father (John), mother (Edna), his sister (Shelly) and his brother (Eric.) He attended Kindergarten through High School in his hometown of Kirtland where he graduated in 1977. He was always very athletic and loved his sports. He played as a starter in basketball although his years on the Kirtland Football Team were some of his greatest high school memories. Jon played as a starter on Defensive End and as a Pulling Guard on Offense because he was so fast. He attended Lakeland Community College for several years before deciding to attend Kent State University. He worked as a Bouncer at The Robinhood Bar throughout his years at Kent State. Jon graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Communications. He graduated in 1983 but not before meeting his wife, Janet Stiegele, in an Isshinryu Karate Class. They married in 1985 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Parma, Ohio, with the blessing of all their family and friends.
Jon and Janet lived in Berea for a year and then spent the next 5 years living in Brunswick, Ohio. Jon’s best companion besides Janet was his dog, Gus. Gus lived with Jon even at Kent State and he never forgot that faithful companion. It was during their time in Brunswick that they welcomed their first child, Leah Christine Spiker. Jon and Janet were so in love with their little girl; they would stare at her in her crib for hours and marvel at how they believed there could be no more beautiful baby on Earth.
In 1991, Jon earned a promotion from Cintas Corporation and became the General Manager of a large plant in Denver, Colorado. Kristen Lynn Spiker (1991) and Jonathan Kenneth Spiker (1995) were both born at Littleton Hospital in Littleton, Colorado. Their family was complete, and they were happy. They would camp in The Rocky Mountains, ski all the great Colorado Ski Resorts, whitewater raft down the Colorado River and Glenwood Springs in addition to traveling throughout California and the Western United States. Jon was so proud of his family, and his greatest joy was taking care of them all.
Janet was homesick for all her family and friends in Ohio and Jon, always wanting his wife to be happy, agreed to move home. They lived in Canfield, Ohio, for a year before building their home in North Royalton, Ohio. Together, Jon and Janet built their lives in Ohio where they raised their children and their 3 dogs, Peanut, Daisy and Lucy. Jon and Janet enjoyed their neighbors that became extended family and traveled on family vacations and later as a couple to French Polynesia (Bora Bora and Moorea), Thailand, Greece, the Middle East, Nova Scotia and extensively throughout the United States and Europe. They celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary, July 20, 2025, in our Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C.
Jon enjoyed working at Cintas and ARC Staffing Solutions, but it was his role at Huntington Insurance that he was most grateful for and enjoyed the most. He served as Senior VP, Insurance Sales Executive as an advisor to business clients, creating innovative Employee Benefit programs. Jon stayed connected with so many business associates that became his friends throughout his life. He always shared how fortunate he felt to work with so many amazing people.
Jon enjoyed a full and beautiful life surrounded by his wife and both immediate and extended family who adored him. Jon enjoyed his son, Jonathan, that clearly became his best friend over the years, his daughter Kristen, that was a total “Daddy’s Girl” and his daughter Leah, who he was so immensely proud of. His family is eternally grateful to Jon and how he always put them first and for his love that never failed.
Jon loved supporting the veterans, so his family wishes any donations be directed to Tunnel to Towers Foundation click here to donate on their website
