Joseph Rini's Obituary
Joseph "Joe" Charles Rini, age 89, of Copley, Ohio peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 26, 2023. He was born in Cleveland on October 26, 1933, to the late Joseph S. and Lee (nee Guinta) Rini.
Joe graduated from Western Reserve University (1956) where he was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Immediately after graduation, he served as a navigator in the United States Air Force. He earned an MBA from Pace University (NYC) and advanced a 30+ year career with Ohio Bell/AT&T.
He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory including his wife and soulmate, Doris (nee Bagger), children Susan Scarponi, Laura Benscoter (Carl), Karen Rini, Thomas Rini (Elena). He loved and doted on his grandchildren Andrew Scarponi (Emmett), Rachel Scarponi (Steven), Charlotte Scarponi (Alex), Joe Benscoter (Danielle), Melissa Green (David), Julie Benscoter, Matt Agpaoa (Jess), Abbey Agpaoa, and Amber Eagans. Thirteen great grandchildren loved and looked up to “Papa.” In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Lynn Legger and brother-in-law Joseph Legger and brother Ronald Rini.
Joe and Doris were high school sweethearts and just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Their devotion to each other was inspirational to all who knew them. They shared a love of their Pelee Island home and friends, and travels to places near and far. Joe once said that his favorite place was, “wherever he was with Dody by his side.” He is remembered for his generosity, his many stories, his love of family, and integrity. He was an honorable man and will be missed by those who were lucky enough to know him.
We invite family and friends who were touched by Joe to a Celebration of Life to be held at The Mustard Seed, 867 West Market Steet, Akron Ohio, on Saturday, September 9th at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Joe’s memory to The Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland, Traditions Health Hospice Care of Cuyahoga Falls, or the Pelee Island Heritage Center.
