Joyce Claire Minnick's Obituary
Joyce Claire Minnick, age 74, of Fairview Park, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 4, 1951, she was the cherished daughter of the late Floyd Howard and Dorothy Baumann.
Joyce shared a remarkable 60-year journey with her beloved husband, Randy Minnick. As high school sweethearts, they formed lifelong friendships at Lutheran High School West and together built a family that was the center of Joyce’s world.
She is survived by her children, Monica (Mark) Chapman and Tyler (Ashley) Minnick; and her adored grandchildren, Ella, Collin, Autumn and Hunter; as well as siblings, cousins and countless friends whose lives she touched.
Joyce found deep joy in life’s simple pleasures. She cherished family vacations, especially trips to the Outer Banks, where beach games and ice cream outings became treasured traditions. She enjoyed the Metroparks bordering her backyard and spent many mornings on her back deck, coffee cup in hand, taking in the view. In the evenings, she and Randy frequented Rocky River Park or Brad Street Landing to watch sunsets over Lake Erie.
Music was always close to Joyce’s heart. She loved a good sing-along and was known to break into show tunes, hymns and Broadway favorites at a moment’s notice. She even composed a few originals, including her classic, “The Only Bad Thing About Chocolate Bars (Is You Gotta Give Your Mom a Bite).” In recent years, Joyce and Randy filled their summers with live music, dancing together to the sounds of favorite 1960s cover bands.
Joyce always had a plan, especially when it came to her grandchildren. From lively family game nights to zoo outings and Indians games, she made it her mission to keep them entertained and engaged, filling every gathering with fun, laughter and adventure. It was in these moments that her vibrant spirit shone brightest.
A dedicated educator for more than 30 years, Joyce taught nearly every grade level, sharing her love of learning with students at St. Edward High School, as well as in the public and Lutheran school systems. As a reading specialist, she nurtured countless young minds with patience, creativity and genuine care. Her passion for teaching sometimes extended beyond the classroom to the children of Seabury Street, for whom she wrote and directed short one-act plays.
Joyce’s smile could light up a room, and her friends cherished her wonderful sense of humor. She delighted in a well-timed practical joke—perhaps never more memorably than the great Christmas Eve sweater prank of 2025, when every child and grandchild arrived at the celebration wearing one of Joyce’s own sweaters, borrowed from her closet in secret.
Joyce will be remembered for her warmth and the joy she brought to every gathering. She will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
