Judge Simpson's Obituary
SIMPSON JUDGE DONALD SIMPSON, 80, of North Olmsted, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to James and Mary Helen Simpson, he lived most of his life in the west side Cleveland area. Don worked in the pool industry for more than 30 years. He served as General Manager for Ohio Pool Equipment & Supply Company located in Strongsville, Ohio. Highly regarded and respected in the region as an aquatics specialist, he was considered a pioneer in the commercial pool industry in North Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. He was a design consultant for the Wave pool, and slides at Geauga Lake Amusement Park. His professional accomplishments include: Member of Board of Directors Mideast Chapter of Region VI for the National Spa and Pool Institute (NSPI) 1974-1980, Chapter Program Chairman 1976-1982, Secretary of Mideast Chapter 1980-1982, Region VI Convention Chairman 1982-1984, and was appointed to the Swimming Pool and Spa Advisory Board for the Ohio State Department of Health in 1988 for a four year term. He was a course instructor on the operation of commercial swimming pools at Cuyahoga Community College and taught the CPO course at Cleveland State University sponsored by the American Red Cross in Cleveland as well as conducted seminars at Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) conventions. He was an instructor for the CPO course for the Ohio State Department of Health and NSPF in Columbus, Ohio on pool operation and maintenance. Don, for 14 years, was the holiday train conductor at Westfield Great Northern Mall and SouthPark Mall. Through the years many children recognized him as the man who would say, ‘All Aboard’ and then he proudly would blow his whistle. He enjoyed the smiley faces of the children and loved how much joy the train provided to little ones at Christmas and Easter. For a time he was highly active in Kiwanis for the Olmsted Falls, Ohio community. Don was a Corporal in the U.S. Army who served from 1953 – 1955 out of Fort Belvoir, Virginia during the Korean War era. Don is survived by his wife, Donna Marie of 24 years, son Robert (Julie) Simpson, daughters Debbie (Ray) Rann, Terri (Mark) Seed, Dawn Simpson and Wendi Simpson, brothers Jerry (Sue) Simpson, Ray (Sandy) Simpson and sister Fay (Paul) Pechaitis, and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Funeral service Monday December 10 at 11:30 a.m. at JENKINS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2914 DOVER CENTER ROAD, WESTLAKE, where family and friends will gather FROM 1-3 AND 6-8 P.M. ON SUNDAY
