Kathleen M. Hlavin, 79, of Avon Lake, OH passed away peacefully on March 18, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. Kathleen was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 9, 1941 to the late Joseph P. and Lois M. Hlavin. Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Jerry Ritter. She is survived by her sister, Joanne (Jerome) Ritter of Bellefontaine, OH, niece Kimberly
Gignac of Pittsburgh, PA, nephews, Scott J. (Renata) Ritter of Wesley Chapel, FL and Matthew J. (Megan) Ritter of Haddonfield, NJ, and five grand nieces and nephews.
Kathleen graduated from Westlake High School in 1959. She attended Ohio University in Athens, OH, graduating with a degree in Fine Arts in 1963.
Kathleen enjoyed working closely with her father, Jay, at the printing company he founded, The Oxford Press. Kathleen became the owner and president of the company for over twenty years.
Kathleen treasured her life long relationships. She is regarded by her high school classmates as the ambassador of the class. Kathleen served as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Class of 1959. She kept everyone in close contact, organizing popular class reunions for many years.
A talented artist and graphic designer, Kathleen loved ice skating at Winterhurst for much of her life, swimming, gardening, and evening walks along Lake Erie to enjoy the sunset.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 12 Noon in North Olmsted, Ohio. Please meet at Sunset Chapel at 11:45 AM to process.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Westlake High School Class of 1959. Please make checks “Payable to Kathleen Hlavin” and send to Chase Bank, 36200 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH 44011.
