Larry Kenton VanDusen's Obituary
Larry Kenton VanDusen, 88, passed away on May 9, 2025. He was born on January 24, 1937, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Donald and Irma VanDusen.
Larry was the beloved husband of 35 years to Barbara VanDusen, a devoted father to Roger (Pamela) VanDusen, Diana VanDusen, and Sheryl (Jeff) Thompson; stepfather to Becky Makris, and Paula Larance, and a cherished grandfather to his twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sandra Stricker.
Larry was the kindest person you could meet—he had a heart full of generosity and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He would do anything for anyone, always putting others before himself with compassion and kindness.
A lifelong lover of football, Larry dedicated his career to coaching at Northwestern University, Kent University, Wisconsin University, Washington University in St. Louis, and concluded an incredible 35-year tenure at Baldwin Wallace University. His leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to the sport shaped the lives of countless athletes.
Beyond his love for football, Larry was a passionate advocate for Alcoholics Anonymous, inspiring and guiding many through their journeys of recovery. His influence reached far and wide, including speaking at Founders Day in Akron, where he shared his wisdom and experiences before an audience of ten thousand people.
Larry’s legacy is one of resilience, leadership, and an unshakable devotion to others. His impact will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held on Friday May 16th, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070, immediately following a memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM at Sunset Chapel. A fellowship for Larry will follow the memorial service from 4:30pm-6:30pm at Sunset Chapel.
