Margarete Gutwein's Obituary
Margarete Lurz Gutwein, age 93, entered peacefully into the gates of Heaven on April 16, 2026, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born on February 1, 1933, in the small village of Draas, Romania and immigrated to America in 1955.
Margarete was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister. Her family was the joy of her life, and she cared for them with a selfless heart. She was known for her gentle spirit and the peace she brought, wherever she went.
Her faith in God guided every part of her life. She found comfort in prayer and spread God's love.
She had many gifts and joys that included cooking, baking, her church life and caring for her grandchildren. In her younger years, she loved to travel, play tennis and sing in the choir at the German American Club, where she was a lifelong member.
Margarete is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ludwig, and her children, Robert Gutwein (Theresa), Tina Artman (Craig), and Monika Looby (Jeffrey); dear Oma to Jessica Holzbach (Tom), Craig Artman Jr. (Claire), Elisabeth Winner (Brett), Rebecca Kozak (Chris), Amy Artman, Melissa Rothacker (Kevin); Great-grandmother to Lainey, Jack, Charlotte, Ryan, James, Chloe, Cal, Landon, Bryce, and Rocky. She was also a loving Aunt and great Aunt to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Andreas and Katarina Lurz, along with her siblings, Andreas, Sara, Anna, Katarina, Olga, Luise, and Grete.
A visitation celebration of her life and faith will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070, from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM, followed by a service in the chapel at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
