Marian Korsakas' Obituary
Marian Korsakas (nee Mihalega) of Westlake, Ohio passed away at age of 94 on December 14, 2023. Marian was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Anna Mihalega, sister Irina Maldonado (Teo), brother William Mihalega (Sally), and niece Carolyn Mihalega. She is survived by nephews Will and John Mihalega, niece Anna Maria Mihalega (Jeff Leithauser), great niece Maria, and great nephew Walter.
Petite in stature but giant in spirit, she lived independently until the last few months of her life.
She was a stylish woman. When she was in the hospital and in her skilled nursing facility, she would still apply the make-up essentials of foundation, lipstick, AND eyebrow pencil. This both impressed and tickled all those who took care of her.
She grew up in Lakewood, OH and lived mostly in the west suburbs of Cleveland. She worked in real estate, retail, and did administrative work.
Marian resided in Ponte Vedra, Florida for most of the 1980s, but she returned to the Cleveland area ready for a new chapter in life and adventures with old friends.
She participated in the 55+ learning program at Tri-C, which allowed her artistic talents to flourish. She took many art classes, and some of her works were displayed in art shows at the college. She delighted her family with watercolor portraits and Christmas cards printed from her paintings of snow maidens and winter scenes.
She was a dancer, too, and had many years of tap and ballet lessons as a young woman. During some recent reminiscing, Marian confided that one of the happiest times of her life was when she performed at Huntington Playhouse in Bay Village in a production of Guys n Dolls.
If you know Marian, and many years from now someone mentions her name, you will probably shake your head, chuckle to yourself in amusement, and say something along the lines of “Oh, that Mar!” This is not a bad thing. In fact, it is a sweet and fitting tribute to the memory of a unique woman who lived a long, interesting life and who will not be forgotten.
