Marilynn Ann Groff's Obituary
Marilynn Ann Groff (Nee Ross), 86, of Avon, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024. She was born on November 17, 1937, in Westlake, Ohio to Hilda and Harry Ross. A proud graduate of Bay High School, class of 1955, Marilynn spent much of her life in Bay Village before moving to Avon in 2005.
Marilynn was the beloved wife of Bob Groff for 67 years, whom she married on September 14, 1957. Their enduring love and commitment to each other were the foundation of a life filled with joy and cherished memories. Together, they raised a family and shared in countless milestones and celebrations.
Among Marilynn’s most significant accomplishments were raising her five children, Bill Groff (Joan), Debbie Woodworth (Jerry Deceased), Don Groff, David Groff (Cheryl) and Sarah Edelman (Chris). She was undeniably proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jennifer Groff, Dan (Laura) Groff, Hannah Groff, Chelsea (Cole) Jacobs, Courtney (Pat) Hoke, Cate, Jackson & Claire Edelman, Emily, Lucy, & Hayes Bartkiewicz, Ellie & Stella Groff, Henry Hoke and the newest addition, Evie Hoke. She was always the first to volunteer to hold a baby and give a gentle reminder to “put some socks on them”.
With a hefty family tree consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Marilynn’s reach was far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many. She was known for her deep sense of family, her loving nature, and her ability to make others feel welcome and valued.
In addition to caring for her family, Marilynn enjoyed a variety of hobbies and activities, including painting, drawing and creating stained glass works of art for her home. She was an avid reader and could read a book during any car ride.
We know that her cherished grandsons Bobby Groff and Zachary Groff as well as her son in law Jerry Woodworth met her at Heaven’s Gates, excited to reunite her with her sisters Laverne Orvis and Helen Stockman and her loving parents.
She is survived by her loving husband Bob, her children and grandchildren as well as brothers Eugene Ross, Richard Ross and sister Rita Scott. Marilynn will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
A celebration of Marilynn’s life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Park 6265 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted, OH 44070. Her family will receive loved ones and friends from 10am-12, with burial services immediately following.
