Mary Louise Gruber's Obituary
Mary Louise Gruber (née Shull), a 70 year resident of Bay Village, passed away on June 13, 2026, at age 102. She was the beloved wife of the late Mathias; loving mother of Maxwell (Tricia), Sherry (Carl) Wagner, Nancy Trainer, and the late Christopher; and proud grandmother of six and great-grandmother of four.
Born on June 26, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, Mary proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In recognition of her lifelong service to veterans and her community, she was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2014. Her post-military achievements included active leadership in numerous civic and Veteran's organizations, among them Bay crafters, The Bay Village Women’s Club, the Marine Corps League, the Women Marines Association, the Marine Corps Devil Dogs, the Cleveland VA Hospital, and the Toys for Tots program. Mary was an avid gardener, artist, baker, seamstress, and traveler - always creating, always giving, always moving forward with purpose.
Funeral service is Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 AM. A graveside military service honoring her service to our nation will follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bay Village Women’s Club Community Fund, PO Box 40433, Bay Village, Ohio 44140, in celebration of Mary’s lifelong commitment to community service.
