Mary Jo Meo's Obituary
Mary Jo Meo, a beloved educator and advocate for teacher's rights, was born on January 27, 1946, in Elyria, Ohio. She dedicated her life to the nurturing of young minds and serving her community with unwavering commitment, kindness, and an exuberant spirit.
After graduating from Elyria District Catholic High School, Mary Jo pursued her passion for education, earning her B.S. in Biology from Ohio State University. She found her calling as a 4th-grade teacher at Wilcox Elementary School, where she left an indelible mark on countless students' lives.
Beyond her role as an educator, Mary Jo was a staunch advocate for teachers' rights and fair wages. Her unwavering commitment to these causes reflected her strong sense of justice and compassion for those in her profession.
Mary Jo's exuberant personality lit up every room she entered. She had a knack for cracking jokes and making everyone laugh, infusing every moment with positivity and joy. She devoted her time to numerous charitable organizations and volunteered at the local soup kitchen every weekend, finding joy in serving others and making a positive impact on her community.
Mary Jo found solace and fulfillment in her Catholic faith, attending St. Richard's Catholic Church. Additionally, she found guidance as a member of the Self Realization Fellowship, where she embraced its teachings and found spiritual fulfillment. For Mary Jo, her spirituality provided deep nourishment and community, as well as shaping her values and guiding her journey of self-discovery.
Family was at the center of Mary Jo's life, and her love for her mother knew no bounds. Their bond was unbreakable, making it fitting that she passed on Mother's Day, a testament to the profound love and connection they shared.
While Mary Jo's passing was sudden and unexpected, her legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Mary Jo is survived by her sister Laura Watson and her brother Eugene Meo, niece Miriam Watson and nephew Michael Watson.
Mary Jo's family welcomes her friends and community to celebrate her life on Tuesday, May 21st, 10am-12pm at Sunset Memorial, North Olmsted. A 12:15pm Mass will be held at St. Richards Parish, North Olmsted. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial.
