Maurita Prendergast's Obituary
Maurita C Prendergast was born on December 3, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on October 31, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Maurice J. Prendergast and Mary Jo McGrath Prendergast. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother Maurice E Prendergast and a nephew. She is survived by her sister Marcia Prendergast Pierce (William) of Chapin, South Carolina; her sister-in-law Nancy Gribben Prendergast; her partner James Bagger; and 9 nieces and nephews.
She attended St Joseph’s Academy and graduated from Mather College at Case Western Reserve in the top 1% of her class with a degree in education.
Maurita began her career as a home economics teacher. She then obtained her M.S. in Counselor Education from Case Western Reserve University. She spent the majority of her counseling career at John Marshall High School helping the students with their academic goals, as well as their social and personal development.
Maurita was not only smart, but deeply committed to her work. Her coworkers admired her not only for her counseling expertise, but also for the gently caring way she went about getting the right results for her students. She made a difference in so many lives.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, music, and travel. She was generous in sharing her talents and time with others. Following her retirement, she volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels packaging and delivering food in the Rocky River area.
Friends and family will be received at 10:00 am followed by a Requiem Mass at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at St Christopher Church, 20141 Detroit Road, Rocky River, Ohio. Burial will be private.
