Norma Emmons' Obituary
Norma Emmons, 96 of Issaquah, WA, was born July 29, 1920 in Bensenville, Illinois to William and Edna Franzen Ernsting. She attended Bensenville High School and Metropolitan Business College. Following business school, Norma enlisted in the US Navy on March 2, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois and earned the rank of Storekeeper Second Class before her honorable discharge on July 12, 1945 in Bremerton, WA.
Norma and Elmer F. Emmons married on a December day in Seattle, WA. Moved to Ohio, where they bought a home in Parma Heights. Elmer passed away in 1983, Norma continued to stay until her move to Issaquah in 1994 to be closer to her family.
Norma was a member of the Issaquah Senior Center and belonged to the “Happy Hookers”, a friendly group who met to socialize while crocheting and knitting. She was also a member of Bellevue First Presbyterian Church until she was unable to attend due to poor health. Norma also had a great compassion for nature and the outdoors, and she particularly enjoyed hiking and gardening.
Norma passed away on December 30, 2016 at Aegis of Issaquah. She will be remembered as a loving mother of three children: son Terry W. (wife Dorrie) Emmons of Utah; and daughters Maureen F. (husband Dan) Segon of Issaquah and Laura E. (husband Roy) Beck of So. Carolina. She will also be missed by eleven grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Beata Ernsting Kehoe, William A. Ernsting, Jr., and Eugene C. Ernsting.
By her request, a memorial service will be held 11am, Friday February 10, 2017 at Dostal Bokas Funeral Home, 6245 Columbus Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. Her committal service, with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, OH, where she will be laid to rest next her husband.
