Oscar L Salinas' Obituary
Oscar L. Salinas, born on September 22, 1947, passed surrounded by those most important to him on March 9, 2019 at the age of 71. He passed away from a cancer diagnosis that he fought until the very end, but he was more than just his disease. He was what you called a jack-of-all trades and if you knew him you would have thought he coined that term. In between figuring out how everything and anything worked with every tool or gadget known to man, he did live life regardless of all the life his family and friends wished he could have kept living. He was born in Arequipa, Peru to Oscar Salinas Sr. (passed June 2011) and Lucila Salinas (who passed June 2019). He had an older sister and was the eldest of 4 boys born into his family which are all still living. Oscar was the first of his family to immigrate into the U.S.A. looking for more opportunity in which started the migration of the rest of his family into North America. His journey started in New York City, then continued on to Ohio, then to California (in which he attended college and obtained many certifications), then back to Ohio, ending in his retirement state of Florida in which he finally obtained his dream home. His skills began with his craft in carpentry at a young age, but his career of choice was being a building engineer in an Independent Living and Skilled Nursing Facility. Even while busy working in his career, he also picked up many trades such as locksmith, plumbing, electrician, HVAC heating and cooling, graphic designer/engraver, and business owner. Later on in his life, he became quite the chef as well. He was indeed a trail blazer with just as many fears and concerns as the rest of us, but he pushed on. During the majority of his life in the states, he was active in the Seventh-Day Adventist church where he participated with the youth, was an elder, went abroad to many European countries on missionary work, and made many friends wherever he went. He definitely was a charismatic man, but he was stubborn as well. Both of his good qualities along with his not so perfect qualities have been passed down to his 2 daughters: eldest being Madelaine Aikman (47) and youngest being Jackienette Dyer (39) both born from his first wife Clara Leticia Salinas. He was always very proud of all of his grandchildren: Cherish Aikman (25), Ashley Aikman (22), and Deanna Dyer (11). He also had many loves in his life but there was that one that before his time was up luckily made him realize how to love unconditionally. It’s never too late, even though it may feel like it is. “We wish we had more time with you pa’i, for many different reasons, but we are glad that you are finally at rest.”
Service for Oscar L. Salinas at SUNSET MEMORIAL PARK, North Olmsted on Friday, September 27th at 2:30 PM.
