Randy Jay Bauman's Obituary
Randy Jay Bauman was born to John and Vella (Melvin) Bauman on October 27, 1952 in Superior, Nebraska. He went home to be with the Lord in Parma, Ohio on November 5, 2024 at the age of 72 years.
Randy grew up in Nora, Nebraska on his family farm. He attended grades 1-7 at Nora School in a small class of only three pupils. He finished grades 8-12 at Nelson High School, in a class of 34. He later attended the University of Nebraska’s School of Technical Agriculture, learning production agriculture. For almost 20 years after high school, Randy worked the family farm. They grew crops included corn, wheat, alfalfa and milo and livestock included chickens, hogs, stock cattle and dairy cows. There he learned the value of hard work and a love of the land.
In 1990, God miraculously saved Randy’s life following a near fatal car accident. While healing from his many injuries, Randy shifted his professional focus from farming to piano tuning. He enrolled in Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City, Iowa, earning an Applied Science degree in Piano Technology, Tuning and Repair in 1994. Shortly after that, he established his independent business, Pure Harmony Tunings, working to tune, regulate and repair new/used pianos. Randy continued this work for more than 30 years. He also had experience in metal fabrication and as a machinist.
Randy “met” his wife, Terry, via a letter in the mail (literally) in 1994. Theirs was a storybook romance only God could arrange across the 1,000 mile expanse between their home states of Nebraska and Ohio. Terry had visited Randy’s home town at a time when he was NOT there. After hearing of her visit and reading a thank you note she had written to her host family, Randy was moved to contact Terry. Acting in faith, he wrote her an introduction letter and waited. Terry was moved by his bold yet no pressure outreach. Also acting in faith, she replied with a letter of her own and the rest was history. Randy moved to Ohio January 1997 and the two were married on August 22, 1998. Although they were not blessed with any children, they enjoyed a wonderful network of “family” found through church, work, their neighborhood and day to day living.
Throughout his life, Randy held an unwavering faith in God, and sought to lead life with honor and integrity. He praised God daily and learned to see God’s hand in nature and in all of life’s circumstances. Randy’s rural upbringing also birthed his “Nebraska friendliness”, regularly exhibited through a wave of acknowledgement to all passersby and a willingness to spend time with anyone for conversation over coffee. He listened well and spoke when wisdom prompted him. He was indeed a friend to all.
Randy loved all aspects of music and expressed it through song, music composition and the playing of instruments including piano, guitar, violin, trumpet, cello, bass and steel guitar. Randy maintained a longstanding interest in motorcycles, tractors and basically anything with a motor. He was an avid reader and wonderful handyman - his farm experiences had taught him well how to fix most anything. He enjoyed traveling and appreciated studying history. Patience and a laid back manner were his hallmark, which also made him an excellent teacher over the years.
Randy was preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Vella; half-brothers Arlyce Cox and Marlin Cox; and grandparents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Terry Bauman; sisters-in-law Donna Cox and Diane Cox; nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of dear friends.
