I had many classes with Becki in middle school and high school. I wouldn't say we were good friends, but we were always friendly. Except for a brief "hello" at a recent class reunion, I haven't really spoken to her since then. After 20 years, many of the specific memories have faded, but impressions remain indelible. I remember how she was always smiling, ready to engage in good-natured repartee. In hindsight, I also remember her for what she wasn't. Unlike most teens who, lacking self confidence, tear each other down, I never recall her hurling insults at anyone. I don't have a single negative memory of Becki, something I don't think I can honestly say about many, if any, others from that time. She was a remarkable teenage girl when I knew her, no doubt she grew into an even more remarkable woman. I'm sad I didn't know her later, even sadder that those who did must now go on without her.
