Richard S. Hale's Obituary
Richard Stephen Hale, age 84, of Bay Village, OH died peacefully at home on June 2, 2016. Richard was born on November 14, 1931 in Wellsburg, WV to Frank and Emma and raised in Wheeling, WV. He graduated from Wheeling Central High School in 1949 and immediately upon graduation served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, completing his service as Sargent in 1953. Richard earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from West Liberty College in 1959 and Master of Education from Kent State University in 1964. He taught business, accounting, typing, American history, and driver education at Bay Village High School from 1959 through 1991 and was an active member of the Ohio Education Association. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles and is survived by his loving wife Eleanor whom he married in 1953; children Kathy (Hossein) of Bay Village, OH, Lynn (James) of Pittsburgh, PA, Scott (Juliann) of Granville, OH, and Lori (Blain) of Berea, OH; sister Dorothy (George) of Canyon Lake, CA, and brothers Bill, Bob, and Ron (Jean), of Wheeling, WV; grandchildren Aaron (Shelly), Jessica (Aaron), and Noah, and; great grandchildren Skylar, Zoe, Grace, Aaron, Caleb, and Colin. Richard was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, often better known as “Pa” or “Great Hale” to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His life was centered on family, faith, and community and he touched the lives of many former students and members of the Bay United Methodist Church in meaningful ways. He never forgot his roots in the Ohio River Valley. Wheeling was always “back home”; however, life in Bay Village, along the shore of Lake Erie, was his focal point for home, family, and friends. The family thanks our friends at Hospice of the Western Reserve and Griswold Home Care for kindness, compassion, and support.
