Richard J. Jicha Jr.'s Obituary
Richard J. Jicha Jr., 73, of Avon Lake passed away on July 17, 2023. He was born
February 8, 1950 in Cleveland and later moved to Parma where he graduated from Valley Forge
High School. Following graduation, he worked for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating (CEI)
Company as an electrical lineman. In 1969, he enlisted in the Navy, where he became a SeaBee,
and served in Vietnam until 1971. After his time in the navy, he returned to work for CEI until
his retirement in 2008.
Rick loved fishing and was a proud member of the Avon Lake Boat Club. He devoted his
time to club committees and to the club’s numerous charitable events. He also spent many
summers fishing with his son, Brian, on Lake Erie and at Fireside Lodge in Ontario, Canada. He
loved to go on road trips with his wife Phyllis to numerous national parks throughout the
country. Each fall, he always spent Friday nights watching Shoremen football games with his
son Matt. At home, Rick had a large vegetable garden, which often included different varieties
of peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes that were used in new recipes each year.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Phyllis, sons Brian of Middleton, WI and Matt of
North Ridgeville, grandchildren Benjamin and Amelia Jicha of Middleton, WI, and sister Linda
Parsson of Olmsted Falls.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be
