Richard Lewis Summers' Obituary
Richard Lewis Summers, age 68, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and the sounds of his favorite Motown music.
Born and raised in Ohio, Rick "Ricky", spent most of his life in the Cleveland area. He was known as someone who loved a good sarcastic joke, a backyard barbeque, and cheering for his Cleveland teams, especially the Indians (Guardians) and the Browns. In his younger years, he was a dynamite baseball player and never lost his passion for the game. Whether playing poker with friends, enjoying old-school rock ’n’ roll, or sharing one of his trademark terrible “dad jokes,” Richard had a knack for bringing fun and laughter to a gathering.
Rick worked many years driving and delivering for Pepsi, which made him the go-to guy for backing up any big truck or trailer in the family! Beyond his work, he was known for his huge heart for animals. Over the years, he adopted and cared for many, from an injured groundhog to a potbelly pig, and especially his beloved pups Parker and Bailey.
Among the most meaningful parts of his life was the role he took on as a father figure to Kaz McDowell, who loved him deeply for the care and stability he brought into her life. He cherished his grandchildren Grayson, Ford, and Harper McDowell, and loved watching them grow and being their "Pops"
He is survived by his wife Judith Summers, who stood by him through their 13 years of marriage and over 30 years of friendship; his daughter and son-in-law Kaz and Justin McDowell; grandchildren Grayson, Ford, and Harper; sister Linda Summers; and his dear cousin Deborah Urban, who held a very special place in his heart. He is also survived by his nephews and niece Ryan Demro and family, Kristen Hager and family, David Summers and family, Joshua Summers and family, and Lucas Summers and family, as well as his special uncle and aunt Ted and Loretta Summers, many cousins who hold such love for him, and his lifelong friend GayLeigh Griffith.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Dorothy Summers, and his brothers David and Carl Summers.
He will be remembered for his humor, his love of music,
