Richard J. Weber
Weber was on the staff of NASA’s Lewis Research Center in Clevland, Ohio for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. He was the chief of the Mission Analysis Office, which performed studies of advanced missions and propulsion systems, both for space travel and futuristic aircraft. He was prolific writer, being the author of over 40 technical reports and society papers, including presentations at international conferences in Canada, France and Israel. His studies ranged from improved subsonic transports, military aircraft, high-energy fuels, hypersonic flight, to manned nuclear rocket travel to Mars and Venus. He was a registered Professional Engineer (passing the Ohio examination with the highest score in the state) and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Yale University before coming to Cleveland. He graduated with High Honors and was elected to membership in Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi, the honorary national engineering and scientific engineering and scientific societies. Since retirement he had been active in community affairs, serving as the first four-term president of the Cleveland chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, member and trustee of the West Park Kiwanis Club, volunteer of the Red Cross blood program, and volunteer income tax preparer for the elderly. His interests including sailing, duplicate bridge, and music (he built his own electronic organ.) Weber resided in Westlake, Ohio and Hutchinson Island, Florida prior to moving to the Renaissance in 2004. He is preceded in death by his wife, Julia Green Weber, also a former NASA employee.
Richard will be privately laid to rest in West Wood Abbey Mausoleum.
