Robert Henry Hammel's Obituary
Robert Hammel, 86, of North Ridgeville, Ohio and The Villages in Florida, passed away on August 15, 2024. Born on November 15, 1937, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Robert lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janet Hammel. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories. Robert is also survived by his children, Alicia (Nick) Moreman, Jeffrey (Sheila) Hammel, and Bradley (Brenda) Hammel. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Andrea, Alayna (Kevin), Shannon, Shawn, Mia, and Ryan, and his great-grandchild, Iris.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martha Hammel; his sister, Marlyn; and his niece, Michelle; and nephew, Scott.
Throughout his life, Robert was deeply involved in his community. He served as the president of the Streetsboro Kiwanis, six years as a councilman for Streetsboro, and the president of the Ohio Association of College Stores (OACS). He dedicated 31 years to managing the Book Center at the Cuyahoga Community College East Campus before his retirement. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville.
Robert was also a Boy Scout leader, instilling values of leadership and service in young minds. He enjoyed running 5Ks, traveling with his wife, golfing, boating, pickleball, attending car shows and drinking milkshakes with family. He cherished his time as a seasonal resident of Florida for 15 years, where he made many friends and enjoyed the warm weather.
Robert Hammel will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, sense of humor and the love he shared with his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service will be held at Sunset Funeral Services, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m., with graveside service to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
