Robert E. Hawthorne's Obituary
HAWTHORNE ROBERT E. HAWTHORNE II, age 69, died on February 14, 2015. Beloved son of the late Robert E. and Ruth (Brauer) Hawthorne. Dear brother of the late Ronald J. Hawthorne. Bob was born May 19, 1945 in Springfield, IL., into a family with a background as Illinois newspaper publishers and farmers. In 1952 the family moved to Bay Village. At the time of his death, Bob was living in the same home where he was raised and lived most of his life. He graduated from Bay High School in 1963, having lettered in baseball. Bob graduated with a BA in Economics from Wittenberg University in 1967 and an MBA from Ohio State University in 1969. College affiliations were Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity and Tau Pi Phi, a business and economics fraternity. After college Bob was an instructor of Business and Economics at Mattatuck Community College in Waterbury, CT., for five years. He then returned to the Cleveland area and worked at American Greetings Corporation in marketing and dealer relations. The major part of Bob’s career was with the Department of U.S. Housing and Urban Development in Cleveland. Always a sports fan and participant, Bob played on the Bay Presbyterian Church softball team for over 20 years. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and several other local and national teams. Bob is survived by three aunts and many cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28 at 11 a.m. at JENKINS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2914 DOVER CENTER RD., WESTLAKE, OH., where friends may call FROM 9 A.M. UNTIL TIME OF SERVICE SATURDAY. Interment Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.
