Robert Andrew Knall's Obituary
Robert Andrew Knall, 85, of Avon Lake, passed away January 3, 2018.
Loving husband of 64 years to Betty Jean (Norris) Knall; beloved father of Michael (Lisa) Knall, Kathryn (Paul) Wardlaw, Jane (Paul) Clark, and Patricia Elise (Scott) Halliday; dear grandfather of Brian (Kimberly) Knall, Caroline (Raymond) Gerard, Alexandra and Natalie Wardlaw, Gregory and Michael Clark, and Bridget and Kellyn Halliday; great-grandfather of Eliza and Jack Gerard; cherished brother of Katherine Eaton and the late Elizabeth Cunningham; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Robert Knall was born in Cleveland, OH, to Andrew and Anne Knall. He met Betty, the love of his life, in seventh grade at West High School. They married in 1953 while he was completing his degree at Baldwin-Wallace College, and began his life’s career at the family business, Knall Beverage, Inc. Robert worked tirelessly at the business, and it grew prosperous as a result of his dedication, optimism, and his likeability. He soon took over the role of general manager and became president of the company in his forties. Robert was elected president of the Cuyahoga County Beer Distributors and served a four-year term as president of the Wholesale Beer and Wine Association of Ohio.
Robert was an active member of the Shrine and the Masons. Within the Shrine, he was a founding member of the Krazy Kops, a group of Shriners who raise funds for the benefit of The Shriners Hospitals for Children. He also greatly enjoyed his membership in the Jesters.
Robert’s other interests were boating, travel, and golf, always with Betty and so many good friends. He was a member of the Catawba Island Club, Willoughby Golf Club, and Stuart Corinthian. Robert loved his work, and always saw the good side of people he met. He had a terrific sense of humor, which delighted his friends and family. Robert could not have been a better husband and father, and will be truly missed by all.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018, in the Westwood Abbey Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, where funeral services will take place at 12 noon, Monday, January 8.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Providence House of Cleveland and The Shriners Hospitals for Children.
