Robert Alden Lovelace's Obituary
Robert Alden Lovelace, 96, of Medina passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2019. He is survived by his wife Lucille “Lucy”, daughter-in-law Karen, son Henry, Jeffrey (Lorene Kay Bailey), Gary (Terri); brother of Homer, Louise, Rena “Mary-Anne” and Dale. Grandfather of many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; Uncle to many nieces, nephews, cousin and friend to so many. Robert is predeceased by his first wife Violet, son Wayne, daughter-in-law Sandy, siblings Dean, Wilma, John and Tom.
Robert was a member of the Western Reserve Masonic Community LLC for 4 years, a practicing Lutheran for 32 years and President of the council for 24 years, a Deacon for 24 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of Machinist mate 1st class. During Roberts 7 years he received many accommodations. He serviced onboard the USS Vulcan, awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal with Fleet and Bronze letter “A”, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, and a Combat Action Ribbon.
Aside from his dedication to the U.S. Navy, Robert also was employed by Ford Foundry as a foreman for 30 years in which he received even more awards and recognitions. Robert will always be recognized as a generous, friendly, and likable person. He was a loving father and he was always helpful, assisting those in need. Robert enjoyed numismatics, photography, attending family reunions and every family holiday and birthday. He enjoyed participating in clubs/ organizations such as the Kiwanis Club and St. Jude’s Hospital working with the Shriner’s. He was a volunteer for many fundraising opportunities as well as many other events and was always stepping up to do what was needed to accomplish their goals.
Robert Lovelace was a father to four boys for 70+ years, a Mason for over 60 years, a Shriner for over 30 years and was always available to anyone who had a need. He sold Vidalia onions for the Shriners, filling his back porch and one garage with onions; he made and sold ice cream for the Shriner’s raising money for children in need, had parties for them and was a loving father and grandfather to many generations of offspring. Robert had a great sense of humor that we can all remember from his jokes to his military life storytelling and of course the stories of his own childhood and upbringing. Many times, he would tell stories and we couldn’t get a word in edgewise. He enjoyed many pets throughout his life, growing and sharing his garden produce, buying things online that he really didn’t need, spending time with friends and family over a good meal in his home and loved talking to people whether family, friends or strangers. Robert’s life on Earth was very full and had touched the lives of too many to count and he will be dearly missed by all.
The family will be receiving guests Thursday, August 15th, from 4PM until 8PM, with a Masonic service at 7:30PM, at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, August 16th at 10AM, followed by Military Honors and burial at Sunset Memorial Park.
