Robert Francis Maruster's Obituary
Robert Maruster, 84, born October 27, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio. Beloved and devoted husband of 49 years to Andrea Maruster. Cherished and loving father of Andrea (Victor), Robert (Colleen), Matthew (Christa) and Ashli (Larry, deceased). Robert, also known as Bob, was proudest to be called ‘Papa’ and was the adored grandfather of Alexandria, Gabrielle, Ryan, Amanda, Eva and Gianna.
Bob was the loving son of parents, Peter and Cornelia, who both immigrated from Romania to the United States. He and his brother, Peter (deceased) grew up immensely proud of their Romanian heritage. His childhood was spent surrounded by the love and laughter of his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bob went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2023, after a courageous fight with cancer. By God’s grace, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Bob graduated from Fairview High School in 1955 at the age of 16 and went on to attend Bowling Green State University where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Upon graduation from Bowling Green, he proudly served in the United States Army. After Bob’s honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to run his family’s bowling alley, Triskett Lanes, on W. 117th St. in Cleveland. Later, Bob attended Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where in 1970 he earned his law degree. He nobly practiced law as a civil attorney until his passing. Bob’s love of learning, especially history, continued throughout his life.
Bob enjoyed entertaining and was affectionately known as the “Grill Master.” It wouldn’t take long before Bob could be found playing music and discussing the history of the song and the artist, while singing along to his favorite albums.
Bob will be remembered most for making others laugh. His ability to tell any story infused with humor is unmatched. He was notorious for bringing a room to tears from laughing. Family members and friends would look forward to one of Bob’s many stories and would often request the same stories to be repeated over and over.
Bob was a well known and avid golfer who spent countless years golfing throughout Cleveland with his golf group named “The Bandits.” If Bob was not at home, it was rightly assumed that he was golfing. When not golfing, Bob was guaranteed to be watching Cleveland sports. He was a passionate and devoted Cleveland sports fan who could recall sports statistics and history like none other.
Bob was a selfless soul who truly enriched the lives of all those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family, his in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as the many friends who knew and loved him.
Per Bob’s request, a private Celebration of Life will be held.
Afterglow by Helen Lowrie Marshall
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing
times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those
who grieve, to dry before the sun.
Of happy memories that I leave
when life is done.
