Roger Henry Patrick's Obituary
Roger Henry Patrick, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025 surrounded by his children. He was born on September 19, 1935 at the Polyclinic in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Henry and Anne Patrick (nee Sudik). He is also predeceased by his brother Kenneth Joseph Patrick.
He met his first wife, now deceased, Carol Pero (nee Connors), via a blind date arranged by Carol’s sister, June. They were married for 25 years and blessed with five children: Mark Patrick, Timothy Patrick, Kevin Patrick (Melissa), Laura Mooney (Kevin) and Lesley Brocato (Christopher) including 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Roger’s marriage to Carol was not permanent and he later remarried Alice “Joy” Patrick who predeceased him in 2024, and they were married for 40 years. He embraced Joy’s family, including her two children, Mark Nelson, deceased, and Karen Nelson. He also shared his home in Brunswick with Joy’s granddaughter Alissa Domann (Nathan) and their 3 children.
Raised in Cleveland, Ohio he attended grade school at St. Benedict, graduated high school from Cathedral Latin in 1953 and graduated from John Carroll University in 1957 with a degree in History. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1959-1961 and was a First Lieutenant earning an expert Badge in both Pistol and Rifle work. After he was Honorably discharged, he worked throughout his life in sales and as a security guard.
A lifelong lover of golf, Roger was first introduced to the game as a young child as his first job was being a caddy at the Shaker Heights Country Club. His passion for the game only grew and he played golf whenever he could if the weather was good and shared his love of the game with his brother, family, friends, and his children. When he wasn’t playing golf, he was watching it on TV and was happy when Rory McIlroy won the Masters as a Grand Slam Champion in April, 2025.
He also loved life and had a wide variety of interests and passions including listening to music and playing the clarinet, guitar, piano and saxophone. He also attended hundreds of opera performances or other live shows. Roger also loved to write and had written in his journal every day documenting his life and the lives of the people around him. Roger also enjoyed cooking delightful meals, reading an interesting book, watching movies or documentaries, spending time on his computer reading news or articles, enjoying a Guardians or Browns game, exercising, traveling, and spending as much quality time as possible with family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 17th at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 followed by a short graveside service.
