Coach Bunevich was a one of a kind person, teacher, coach, and friend. As a teacher I always remember having to run a mile around the track in PE before getting to do anything else in class and it was always for a grade. As a coach he was gruff on the outside, but was one of the few coaches in Amherst who had the patience to deal with teenage athletes and get them to do their best at all times on and off the field. As a friend he took an interest in my family and wanted to see us every time we were in town. I will miss my teacher, coach and friend.

At Valparaiso University, Roy was tough when he played football, blocking low and hard and making room for our running backs. He had a hardy laugh and a wonderful sense of humor. But he was also kind and gentle. He would reach out to those who were hurt, sad, or discouraged. And when he heard of Charlie Kohl's death, who was one of his best Valpo friends, he must have shed tears. When I heard of Roy's death, I shed tears, and my heart was sad. I had not heard or been with him for some time. But his memory will always be a blessing for me and for untold others who knew him. As Eileen shares with all of us, "He is with the Lord." He will also be with his eldest son, Jason, and all his loved ones who have passed before him. They are now basking together in God's heavenly realm.
