Ruth Dowding Cook's Obituary
Chardon, Ohio - Ruth Dowding Cook, formerly of Fairview Park, passed away peacefully on June 29 at age 99 at The Residence of Chardon. She was born on June 13, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Richard and Tena Dowding. At Western Reserve University, she met Homer Cook, to whom she was married for 72 years until his passing. She is survived by their three children, Daniel of Portland, OR; Chris (Patty) of Oakland, CA; and Marilyn (Michael) of Chardon; grandchildren Beth (Kingsley), Keith (Tierra), Rob, Libby, and Ian; great grandsons Logan and Evan, and many nieces and nephews . She is also survived by her sister Nancy Dowding of Brecksville, and was predeceased by her four brothers. Ruth was an elementary reading specialist in the Fairview Park Schools (Garnett) for many years. Her interest in literacy continued in retirement in the Reach Out and Read program, as part of her participation in Kiwanis. In the past few years, she and her friend Ginny revamped and upgraded the library at their assisted living facility, to great benefit. She made many new friends at The Residence of Chardon, especially Gloria Schiffler and Bev Adams. Services will be at 11 AM Thursday, July 7, at John Knox Church, 25200 Lorain Rd, North Olmsted, OH 44070. Visitation precedes the service at 10 AM. Ruth will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park.
