Ruth Ellen Fielder's Obituary
Ruth Ellen Fielder, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. She was born on August 14, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Robert S. Shankland and Hilda C. Kinnison.
Ruth was a woman of grace and intellect. She earned her BA and master’s degrees in chemistry from Case Western Reserve University and worked at Standard Oil as a chemist until she started her family, which was her true legacy. She was actively involved in her children’s interests and passions, including driving them to early morning figure skating and hockey practices, leading their scout troops, managing their soccer teams, and helping them prepare for piano competitions. She was also very active in the community and enjoyed playing competitive volleyball, bridge, running, crafting, playing the guitar, and tutoring local students in reading.
Ruth leaves behind her cherished children: Linda (Douglas) Preiser of Hunting Valley, Ohio; Sherrin Fielder of Reno, Nevada; and William Fielder of North Olmsted, Ohio. She was the proud grandmother of Andrew (Sarah) Preiser, Hannah, Chloe, Gavin, Lola, and Kate, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by her dear siblings: Dorothy Eisenhour, Lois McIntyre, Ava Prebys, and Sherwood Shankland.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Fielder, and her beloved son, David Fielder.
Her legacy of family, intelligence, and grace, will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive family and friends on Monday, January 19th, 2026, from 10:30am-11:00am at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 with a funeral service to follow immediately after at 11:00am.
