Serawit Asfaw Wodajo's Obituary
Serawit Asfaw Wodajo, 73, of Olmsted Township, OH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, at AMES Family Hospice House surrounded by her loving children.
Serawit was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1949, to Zewditu Dejene and Asfaw Wodajo. She is survived by her daughter Tigist Tesfayesus and son-in-law Robert Amoah, her son Wondimeneh Tesfayesus and daughter-in-law Awet Osman, son Asrat Tesfayesus and daughter-in-law Tihitina Zenebe Gebre, daughter Blen Tesfayesus and son-in-law Benyam Negusie, her nine grandchildren, Yohanna, Mattea, Natnael, Heldana, Markkon, Orion, Tesfayesus, Maya and Zeima, her brothers Wossen Asfaw and Dawit Asfaw, and her sister Elizabeth Asfaw. She is preceded by the love of her life and husband Tesfayesus Asrat, her parents Zewditu Dejene and Asfaw Wodajo, and her brother Yemane Asfaw.
Serawit Asfaw completed her primary and secondary education at Empress Menen School, an all-girls school, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She continued on to higher education at Haile Selassie I University where she obtained her degree in Accounting in 1971.
Subsequent to completing her education, Serawit started her career as an accountant at the Ethiopian Electric Light & Power Authority. She continued on to have a successful career in various positions, including as a department head at the Ethiopian Beverage Corporation until she moved to the United States in 1995. Serawit lived in Urbana, IL and Peoria, IL during which she worked as an accountant for the Section 8 program at the Peoria Housing Authority (“PHA”) of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development where she ultimately served as the director of PHA’s Section 8 program. Serawit also lived in Silver Spring, MD with her sister prior to moving to Olmsted Township in 2006 where she lived ever since.
Serawit was a loving wife, mother, sister, and an anchor to all of whom she knew and who were blessed with her unwavering commitment and abundance of care.
Her passion was showing kindness and giving love to all of those who crossed her path with an unyielding foundation in her faith. She will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 4-8 PM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday October 5, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Falls Catholic Church, 25615 Bagley Rd, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138.
