Sesler "Ses" Newton Titus' Obituary
Sesler Newton "Ses" Titus, 85, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away on April 17, 2024 from kidney disease. He was born on February 22, 1939, in McClellandtown, PA. Sesler was a cherished father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Catherine (Lewandowski) Titus; brother-in-law and friend Joe (Celia) Lewandowski; son Mark (Jacki) Titus; daughters Tammy Moore (Mike) & Kristy Titus; grandchildren Taylor & Brooke Titus; Andrew & Hanna Moore; granddogs Mazy & Sophie; great-granddog Louis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Levi and Mabel Titus, and siblings Marion, Robert, Emily, Claude, Thurman, Glen and Margaret.
As a youth, Ses spent the summers visiting his brothers in Maryland. One summer, he proudly helped them build the Pasadena United Methodist Church.
Sesler graduated from Carmichaels Area High School in 1957 and attended Fenn College. He enjoyed driving the Good Humor (Goody) ice cream truck as his summer job, where he eventually met the love of his life, Catherine. His piercing blue eyes, blonde hair and charm quickly won her over! They married and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where they started their family. Ses and Cathy later moved to Brook Park and Strongsville.
Sesler was active and athletic throughout his entire life, from playing baseball in the fields with his childhood friends, to wrestling competitively in high school, to jogging and working out at the rec center daily throughout the majority of his adult life. He enjoyed playing competitive softball as a knuckle-ball pitcher for various teams in Berea, Lakewood and Cleveland (including the Circuit Riders, Berea Burger King, and Pepco), and traveling teams in Indiana and Maryland. As an adult, he was a baseball coach for the West Denison Little League Colts, the team his son played on.
Ses began his career with the City of Cleveland in 1959 as a draftsman, subsequently transitioning into management positions at Cleveland Public Power where he served for nearly 40 years. Sesler was superintendent of trouble operations, working tirelessly during storms and power outages to help restore service and clear outages.
Ses loved cars throughout his whole life, especially his first car – his 1959 Austin Sprite. He loved driving it around through the hills of his hometown. Ses’ pride and joy was fixing his son’s first car. He spent countless hours resurfacing and painting the doors, painting the car and putting a racing stripe on it.
A talented craftsman, Ses was constantly working on projects and improvements around the house. He never hesitated to help his kids and grandkids with projects around the house, whether he was installing a new floor, helping with electrical projects, building a new fence, or helping build a car for a local Pinewood Derby.
In his free time, Sesler loved watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns, WWE, The Curse of Oak Island and Western movies. His hobbies included fishing, photography, and spending time in the Metroparks. Ses especially treasured moments with his family and attending his grandkids' many activities, including lacrosse games, grandparents day, band concerts, softball games, track meets, soccer games, dance recitals, cross country races, church activities, and chauffeuring to and from Kent. He always loved taking his grandkids to the neighborhood pool during the summer and treating them to DQ blizzards or lunch.
