Sharon Jeanne Vardian's Obituary
Sharon Jeanne Vardian (née Bittel) passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, under hospice care in Westlake, Ohio, surrounded by love.
A woman of exceptional intelligence, curiosity, and integrity, Sharon devoted her life to education and the pursuit of knowledge. With a master’s degree in Education, she taught science to countless students, encouraging them to explore the world with wonder and confidence. Her lessons extended far beyond the classroom, teaching her students to think critically, act kindly, and take joy in discovery.
Her leadership and advocacy for teachers were equally remarkable. Sharon proudly served as president of her local teachers’ union for 17 years, where her fairness, dedication, and strength of conviction earned her deep respect among colleagues and administrators alike.
Sharon’s adventurous streak matched her intellect. In her younger years, she took flying lessons simply for the thrill of learning something new, and she never lost her love of roller coasters or spontaneous adventure. She found peace on the water through sailing and joy in the company of her beloved Basset Hounds.
She was married to her devoted husband, Anthony Vardian, from July 29, 1967, until his passing in March 2014. Sharon is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Bennett (née Vardian), and son-in-law, Robert T. Bennett, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Alma Bittel (née Wiese), and her sisters, Beverly and Lois, whose memories she carried close to her heart. Though her circle grew smaller in later years, Sharon cherished the love of her family and her lifelong friendship with Marianne, her dearest friend since childhood who was like a sister to her.
Those who knew Sharon will remember her wit, independence, and strength of spirit. Her legacy of wisdom, courage, and curiosity continues to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
A private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an animal rescue, humane society, or Basset Hound rescue organization.
