Shirley Mae Canterbury's Obituary
Shirley Mae Canterbury, 77, of Berea, Ohio, passed away on July 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 9, 1948, in Logan, West Virginia, to the late Edgar and Vinnie Canterbury, Shirley’s life was a reflection of warmth, resilience, and devotion.
A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Shirley is survived by her children: Shereen (Dennis, deceased) Jordan, Patty Busser, Vinnie Acord, and Crystal (Chris) Straquadine; her beloved grandchildren: Tiffany, Sara, Stephany, Nicholas, John, John Ryan, Amber, Leighann, Brian, Jeff, Jenna, Timmy, Joseph, Areianna, Alexis, Christopher, Holly, and Brandon; and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Louann Goldrick, and many loving friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her lifelong friend and companion, Howard “Doug” Insco, her grandson, Jacob, as well as 11 brothers and sisters.
Known for her love of nature and music, Shirley found joy in camping—especially at Shawnee Lake—where she created lasting memories around campfires and under starry skies. Her passion for live concerts and music brought her energy and happiness that she shared generously with others. She also found great joy and community through her time at McGregor Pace Adult Day Center.
Above all, Shirley treasured her family. Her greatest pride came from watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, always offering support, laughter, and unconditional love.
She will be remembered for her big heart, unwavering strength, and ability to bring people together. Her legacy lives on in the stories told around family tables, the music she loved, and the lasting bonds she nurtured.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 on Monday, August 4, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be at Sunset Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, Ohio (Section 40, Lot 105, Space 3).
