Shirley R. Hummel's Obituary
Shirley Rita Hummel, a longtime resident of North Olmsted, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Rockport Senior Living.
Born in Verona, PA in 1934 to the late George and Winifred Marsh Murray Huber, she became the second youngest of 17 after her widowed mother, remarried Frank Koch. Her family moved to North Olmsted in 1942.
She was the beloved wife of Ronald Hummel for 67 years; cherished mother of the late David (Susan) Hummel, Jeff (Kathy) Hummel, John (Ellen) Hummel, and Kris Hummel. Loving grandmother of Nicole (Brandon) Manley, Sarah Hummel, Kaylea (Bryan) Miller, Steven (Nicole) Hummel, Lisa (Rosario) Calabria, Emily and Allyson (Pat) Hummel; and great-grandmother of Tyler, Taylor, Faith, Brooklynn and Alexis Miller and Ava Hummel. Dear sister of Georgeanne (Jan) Brinkerhoff. Special aunt to many nieces and nephews and wonderful friend to many.
Shirley was an active member of St. Brendan's Church and she enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking and spending time with loved ones. Among the numerous places she visited, Cape Cod was her favorite. Shirley will be remembered as being the life of the party. Whether it was the annual clam bakes, multiple family parties, or eating seafood at oyster fest, she was always laughing and dancing.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Funeral Services in North Olmsted. A mass will be held at St. Brendan’s Church at a later date due to Covid.
