Shirley J. Thome's Obituary
Shirley J. Thome, 80, was born on January 29, 1943, to the late William and Mary (nee Balogh) Kovacs.
Shirley passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2023. Cherished mother of Jeannine Docherty (Ryan), Michael (Colleen), and Richard (Lindsey Carr). Loving grandmother of John Michael McCabe, Jacob McCabe, Evan Thome, Ryleigh Swartzlander, Sophie Thome, Kayly Smith, and Eli Thome. Adored step-grandmother of Taylor, Shane and Cooper Docherty. Dear sister of the late Wilma (Rue, surviving) Foe. Loving aunt of Bill Foe, Patty Stone, Melinda Pauk, and the late Barbara King. Shirley also leaves Greg Jones, who she loved like her own son.
Shirley was a friend to many and welcomed everyone with open arms into her home. She was a mom to all, especially to the many friends of her children during their years of growing up in Medina, OH. Although she played the role of “mom” to all of her children’s friends, she was lovingly called “Shirl”.
Shirley had a passion for crocheting and over the years donated hundreds of blankets and caps to those in need. Nothing made her happier than giving everything she could possibly give. Her regular visits to the senior center in Strongsville, OH brought her much joy and lasting friendships. She cherished every one of them.
Visitation is Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070, where the service will follow at 1:30 PM.
A graveside service will follow on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, where family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM at the chapel to line up in procession.
