Siegfried August Drescher's Obituary
Siegfried August Drescher, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025.
Born on May 4, 1935, in Schirwindt, Germany, to the late August and Anna
Drescher, Siegfried lived a full and vibrant life.
Along with his parents and sister, Siegfried lived on their farm in Schirwindt until
being displaced during World War II. His father stayed to serve in the German
military while Siegfried, his mother, and sister traveled by horse and buggy to
Nuremberg, Germany, where they settled.
In 1950, Siegfried immigrated to the United States, settling in Cleveland, Ohio
with his mother and sister. He attended Rhodes High School and West Tech, and
later worked for HoltKamp Organ Company, installing and fixing organs.
In 1955, Siegfried was drafted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged
in 1957. He especially enjoyed being stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. Siegfried then
embarked on a long career with Ohio Bell (AT&T), where he worked for 35 years
until his retirement in 1991. Siegfried was known for his dedication and hard work,
collecting coins from pay phones, installing phones, working in assigning, and
eventually becoming a manager.
Siegfried was an active member of St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church,
where he enjoyed volunteering. He was a regular at the West Side Market every
Saturday for many years and loved engaging with people everywhere he went.
Known for his humor and sarcasm, Siegfried brought joy to those around him.
In 1967, Siegfried married Lilyan Drescher, and they moved to Seven Hills, where
they built a life together. They had two children, Laura and Kurt. Siegfried was a
lover of animals and nature, regularly feeding squirrels, birds, and cats. He loved
having a dog in the house and regularly walked in the neighborhood. Yeager and
Huck were his special companions in more recent years. Siegfried enjoyed
amusement parks, especially riding roller coasters. He had a fondness for coffee,
bakery treats, and beer. Siegfried enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He loved joking around with them, giving them nicknames, and especially enjoyed
sharing stories from his past.
Siegfried is survived by his beloved wife, Lilyan Drescher; his children, Laura
Bishop and Kurt Drescher; his grandchildren, Noah Bishop, Autumn Bishop, and
Makayla Drescher, and his dog Huck. He was preceded in death by his sister,
Elisabeth Becker.
The family extends a special thank you to Mount Alverna Village for their
wonderful care of Siegfried. They have grateful appreciation for the blessing of
Sister Angela.
Siegfried will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His
legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he
touched.
