Sonja Vassil's Obituary
Sonja A. Vassil (nee Kamer), 82, of Strongsville passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. She was born in Pennsylvania to the late Hubert and Violet (nee Bowser) Kamer on May 31, 1938. Besides her parents, Sonja is preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick McCaskey Sr.; daughter Debbie; and son David.
Sonja is survived by her husband, Bill Vassil; children Frederick McCaskey Jr., Sandra (Ed) Nelson, Michelle (Craig) Capek, Christopher McCaskey, and Michael (Alyssa) Vassil; treasured grandchildren Cindy, Carla, Carrie, Madison, Avery, and Evan; precious great-grandchildren James, Jordan, and Aaliyah; many nieces and nephews; friends and other loving family.
In her earlier life, Sonja always wanted to be outdoors and found herself going on many camping trips. Sonja had a strong Christian faith and was a devote Catholic. Christ was first in her life, next to her family. Sonja regularly sought out Holy Scripture and encourage her family to do the same to overcome trying times up until the very end.
Sonja’s greatest joy was being a mother to seven children and later a grandmother. She enjoyed playing board games and just spending time with her family any chance she could. Sonja loved cooking, watching all Cleveland sports games and ‘General Hospital’, going on road trips with her family, and solving crossword puzzles. Sonja watched and fed many birds and other wildlife in her backyard and loved her many cats and dogs over the years.
Sonja will be remembered by her strength, her gentle heart, and her faith. She will be dearly missed in the days to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make charitable donations to the Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland.
