Suzanna Hunyadi (nee Pek), 91, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024. Born on April 14, 1933, in Kekkut, Hungary to the late Gyula and Rosalia Pek. Suzanna lived a life full of love, devotion, and creativity.
Suzanna was married to Otto for 68 wonderful years. She is survived by her children, Suzanna (Ernie Prem) Hunyadi, Sylvia (Irwin) Peters, and Peter Hunyadi. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandchild, Christa Hodges. Suzanna is the dear sister of the late Gyula, Miklos, and Laszlo; and to the living Maria, Margaret and Paul.
A devoted follower of God, Suzanna found great joy attending mass at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice Florida for over 25 years. She was also a member of St. Emeric Church in Cleveland, Ohio for over 60 years. EWTN network station was her saving grace until the end of her life.
In the year of 1956, The Russian Uprising in Budapest made it necessary to escape communism. They crossed the border on their 1st wedding anniversary. Suzanna, Otto, and 3-month old daughter arrived in the United States a month later. Suzanna taught herself to speak and write English by watching television.
Suzanna’s passion for cooking and baking began at the tender age of 8. She was especially known for her delicious Hungarian pastry, which became a cherished tradition at Christmas time. Her talents extended beyond the kitchen; she was a skilled clothing designer and seamstress. Suzanna’s green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, and she was also an accomplished crocheter, knitter, and embroiderer. She cared for all the family animals; ducks, chickens, and German shepherds. Her one regret was that she didn’t have enough land to keep a cow.
Suzanna’s legacy of love, faith, and serving others will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Emeric Church and EWTN.
