Valentin Winnyk's Obituary
Valentin (Val) Winnyk, aged 75, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, January 11th, 2025. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Rose, his children, Jennette and Christopher, sister Valerie O'Connell (Bill), brothers Nick (Laura) and Wally (Peggy), and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aleksander and Uljana, children Mary and Katie, sisters Olga and Mary, and brothers John (Mary Ann) and Paul.
Val grew up in the Tremont projects of Cleveland before venturing around the country to start his life. He met his wife in Fort Worth, TX and married her before beginning an 11+ year enlistment in the US Army, working his way up to Staff Sergeant and overseeing military communications during several assignments around the globe. After his enlistment, Val and his family moved to New Jersey and he dedicated his entire 34-year professional career to Sprint, starting as a technician and ending as a Network Service Manager for Sprint's key wireline clients. A colleague of his recently credited him with being "a guiding force for the company.” He also completed a bachelor's degree along the way. After retirement, Val and his wife moved to Parma, OH, where he spent his golden years close to his family, enjoying weekend get-togethers with people he loved.
Val was a voracious reader who only asked for books as holiday gifts. A dedicated Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan, he enjoyed attending games with his son. He was also a familiar, friendly face at his local YMCA, and enjoyed long walks around his neighborhood, feeding the deer that would congregate in nearby fields.
A devoted father, Val cherished taking his daughter swimming and his son camping as they were growing up. He was a patient teacher of life lessons to his children and was enormously proud to share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. Unwaveringly loyal to his wife, he very much enjoyed travelling with her, especially on cruises during their later years. He was the finest example of a purpose-driven family man and will be remembered by all for his gentle kindness, dedication, and support.
