Viola I. McDowell (nee Anderson), age 84 of Lakewood, passed away on January 21, 2021. She was the dear daughter of the late John and Tyyne Anderson and the beloved wife of 52 years to Francis. Viola graduated from West Tech High Read Obituary
She was my favorite teacher at West Tech High School. I had her as my English literature teacher during my senior year. I also knew Mr. McDowell he was my bowling instructor on the all star team back in 1969 My thoughts and sympathy are with her husband and family.

I just learned of Mrs. McDowell's passing today. She was my favorite teacher at West Tech High School. I had her as my English literature teacher during my senior year. She opened my eyes to the classics, especially 19th century works. I also fondly remember the field trip our class took that year to the Cleveland Playhouse to see Shakespeare's Macbeth. Rest in peace Mrs. McDowell. My condolences to your husband and other family and friends.
Viola was my father, Lars Andersson’s cousin. We met Viola when she visited her family in Öland, Sweden and remember her as a very sweet and warm person. Our warmest condoleances. Anette Andersson, Lars Andersson, Gunnel Andersson and Charlotte Andersson.
I bowled with Vi at Buckeye Lanes on Friday mornings Senior League. Vi was one of the nicest ladies in the world. She always laughed and had fun with me. She did not come back to bowling this year. I missed seeing her. It was a pleasure to know her. I am glad I had the opportunity to be a part of her life. My brothers went to West Tech and she had taught all three of them.

I first met Vi when she was a senior at West Tech where I was the Drama teacher. I directed her in "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay", a delightful comedy. She lent a talent and joy in every aspect of her role. Much later, when I retired from teaching Television Production at Westlake High School, we renewed our friendship at College Club. For the last twenty-five years we have played golf together (she was much better than I), seen each other at Great Lakes Theater productions, and just enjoyed every contact we've had at meetings, luncheons and other activities. I will miss our conversations and the simple joy of seeing the lovely, warm adult she became. My thoughts and sympathy are with her husband and family.

Vi was a joy in my life. I especially enjoyed the many times , I shared Thanksgiving dinner with Vi , Francis and her many friends. Her cooking skills were phenomenal. From the various rooms of their home flowed her spirit, warmth and friendship which I shall always treasure. I loved her dearly. During these difficult times, may Francis find comfort and joy in my loving thoughts of his wife, Viola. May she rest in peace.
