Walter "Bud" Charles Schmidt's Obituary
Walter Charles “Bud” Schmidt, of Sheffield Lake, OH, passed away Saturday June 1, 2024 on his 79th birthday. Devoted husband of 55 years to Sharon Rosalie Schmidt (nee Haller); loving father to sons Gary Schmidt of Sheffield Lake, OH, Kevin (Denise) Schmidt of Clayton, CA and daughter Tammy (Darin) Powers of Kent, OH. Papa to three grandchildren Madison Powers, AJ Powers and Alexis Schmidt. He also leaves behind a sister Elsie (Henry) Zickuhr of Billings, MT, nieces, nephews, dear friends and beloved dog Baylee.
Bud was a proud United States Marine Veteran enlisting in 1963 and served in the1st Battalion, 9th Marines, otherwise known as “The Walking Dead” during the Vietnam War. He was seriously injured by gunfire and returned home to finish out his service with an Honorable Discharge in 1968 as a Private First Class. He earned a Purple Heart, a National Defense Service Medal and other military service awards.
After his service to our country, he worked as a machine operator for USG Interiors in Westlake before his retirement.
Bud will be remembered for his love of fishing, boating, car rides, throwing darts, trips to the casino and always making sure his family had the best of everything. His big smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Alta Schmidt, son Albert Fye and brother Ronald (Delores) Cole.
In accordance with Bud’s wishes, he will be cremated with a private graveside service and a Celebration of Life in his honor with friends and family that will take place at a later date.
