William” Bill” John Hughes was born October 29, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Henry J. and Mary (nee Kennedy) Hughes. He passed on June 1, 2024 at the age of 74 years old in Olmsted Twp, OH.
Survived by his wife of 49 years, Gail; son Shaun (Michaela); daughter Heather; grandsons William and Jaxson; sister Lauretta Miller; brother-in-law Guy (Radhika) Walling; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister Patricia Graci and brother Henry “Butch” Hughes.
After attending school in Philadelphia, Bill served in the US Army for 6 years before meeting the love of his life, Gail Walling. They lived in Cleveland for 40 years, where Bill had his own trucking company before retiring in Olmsted Township in 2016.
Bill was an avid football fan, and though he was a devoted Browns fan, he also rooted for his beloved Philadelphia Eagles (Go Birds!).
Known for his dry wit, sly smile and prankster nature, Bill loved spending time with his family, friends and pets. He enjoyed visiting his Jersey and Philly-based family, as well as playing poker, fishing, and tending to his plants, tomato garden, and bird feeders.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Animal Protection League.
