William John Busse's Obituary
William John Busse, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. He was born on September 1, 1936, to the late Anna and William C. Busse.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Roberta Busse, with whom he built a home filled with warmth and laughter. Together, they raised three children: Beverly Lederman (Robert, deceased), William B. Busse (Kimberly), and Barbara McFarland (Joseph). William was a proud grandfather to William R. Busse, Morgan McFarland, Annabel McFarland, and Josie McFarland. He was also a cherished brother to the late Shirley (Roger) Owens (deceased), and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Bill was a devoted family man. You could always find him cheering from the sidelines at one of his grandchildren’s events, beaming with pride. He found peace in bird watching and joy in rooting for the Cleveland Indians, never missing a chance to talk baseball.
A lifelong resident of Bay Village, William graduated from West Technical High School, where he was a dedicated wrestler—a passion he carried into his college years at Ohio University. He served in the National Guard and later proudly committed himself to public service for 36 years as a Cleveland police officer. Notably, he was the first full-time beat man assigned to the historic West Side Market, where he built strong ties with the community and earned the respect of vendors and visitors alike. Bill was also a 67-year member of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) lodge #8.
Visitation is Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070, where the funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM.
