“Losing my father was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through, but the team at Sunset Funeral Home and Cemetery in North Olmsted made the process so much easier to navigate. From start to finish, they handled everything with kindness, compassion, and professionalism.
They truly went above and beyond—coordinating with the hospital, ensuring a smooth transfer, embalming and dressing my father exactly to our wishes while meeting all state requirements, and handling every detail of the funeral and burial with care. Pricing was fair, and they were incredibly understanding about working within different budgets without sacrificing quality.
My father’s funeral service was held at Old Stone Church, as per his wishes. The church is approximately 40 minutes away from the cemetery, but the escort and lead car staff on the day of the service were ultra professional in directing traffic through the busy downtown Cleveland streets. They ensured that the funeral procession of about 30 or more cars moved smoothly and respectfully, allowing us to honor my father without added stress.
Once we arrived at the cemetery, there was a slight delay with the grounds crew after the graveside service was concluded. We waited several minutes before they arrived, which was a bit unexpected. However, once they did, they were incredibly respectful and professional in handling the casket and container. They took extra care, running multiple test runs with the heavy machinery that lifts the container to ensure everything was balanced and secured properly. Finally, the members of the grounds crew personally shook my hand and offered their deepest condolences to me and my family. They held the utmost respect for my father, which meant a lot to us.
I can’t say enough about Holly, Laura, Brad, Jen, Alexis, Samantha, and Kelsey—they are absolute angels. No matter how busy they were, they always made time for my questions, responding quickly and making sure I never felt lost in the process. I had a direct line to most of the staff and never once felt ignored or like just another client.
If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be more transparency with pricing. I wish there were a clear catalog available—either online or in a brochure—so I could review casket, container, and service prices on my own time. While I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision, having access to this information beforehand would have not only helped build even more trust but also saved time for both me and the staff. It would have allowed me to make more informed decisions at my own pace rather than going through options in person.
There’s so much more I could say—the staff truly went above and beyond in ways too numerous to list. Their kindness, professionalism, and dedication made a difficult time much easier, and I’ll always be grateful for the care they showed my family and my father. If you need a funeral home that truly cares and treats your loved one with respect and dignity, this is the place.”
