Armando F. Zubizarreta's Obituary
Armando F. Zubizarreta, 92, of Westlake, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on September 17, 1933, in Lima, Peru, Armando was the beloved son of the late Daniel and Felicitas Zubizarreta. His life was marked by a deep appreciation for knowledge, creativity, and beauty, qualities that shaped both his professional career and his personal passions.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith (née Simonich) Zubizarreta, cherished father to his children: Rosalma, Alfonso (Denia), Miguel (Denise), Gabriel (Hannah) loving grandfather to: Daniel (Tamyres), Dougie, Timothy (Camarie), Samantha (Taylor), Victoria (William), Nicholas, Camille (Mark), Jessica, and Collette ; step grandson: Marius (Andrea) and great-granddaughter Ziana.
Armando was a researcher and a renowned Unamuno scholar, who published several books and articles reflecting his intellectual curiosity and commitment to sharing knowledge. He dedicated many years to education as a professor, a vocation through which he touched countless lives. Beyond academia, Armando had a lifelong love of art and possessed a remarkable eye for aesthetics. He found great joy in handiwork and creative projects, always striving to make the world around him more beautiful.
Armando’s legacy lives on through the generations he helped shape, the students he inspired, and the work he leaves behind. He will be remembered for his intelligence, creativity, persistence, and passionate presence.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers from Griswold, who with their compassionate care during his long illness, were instrumental in helping him live the best life possible. We also extend gratitude to the Westlake team of Hospice of the Reserve for their care during the last several months of his life.

A memorial gathering will take place on July 22, 2026 at the home of his son, Miguel Zubizarreta, at 31214 Lake Road, Bay Village, Ohio 44140 beginning at 3 pm and lasting into the evening.
