I love you, Dad, and I know that you love me. I never knew exactly how much until you had listed all my accomplishments in your speech at my first wedding. I could see the pride and love in your face. I will never forget that moment or any of the other moments we shared. Baseball games, golf outings, board games, or just watching TV--I've always enjoyed spending time with you. I would not have admitted it then, but I would always look for you while on the basketball court or the football field. I knew exactly where you were for every game, and I didn't feel like I could be at my best without knowing where you were. Two of my most memorable moments on the field both happened my senior year at Freeland High School. In the fall, I caught the winning touchdown pass on the last play of the game. After my coach, you were the first person I saw running across the field toward me. You gave me a big bear hug, jumping up and down screaming with shear joy. Then the following spring, on the baseball field I had the game winning hit to clinch the conference championship. As soon as I touched first base, you were there giving me the same bear hug and screaming with the same shear joy. You weren't the world's best Dad, but you were the best Dad we could have had. We love you, Dad, and we know that you love us.
