Dr. Jerry Silver's Obituary
Dr. Jerry Silver, 77, of Bay Village, Ohio, passed away on January 7, 2025. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 2, 1947, to the late Yossie and Rose Silver, Jerry lived a life full of passion and purpose. He was the beloved husband of 32 years to the late Jeanne Silver.
Jerry's legacy is carried on by his children: Daniel (Melinda) Silver, Karen (Jeffery) Schiller, and David (Ashley) Silver, and by his grandchildren: Olivia, Audrey, Andrew, Jonah, Carter, and Parker. He is also survived by his brother Larry Silver and his aunt Miriam Sigman.
Jerry had a distinguished career in neuroscience as a professor, teacher, and researcher. He began his career at Case Western University in 1979 and his groundbreaking work made him a recognized name in the fields of neuroscience and spinal cord injury research. Among other accolades, he received the Reeve-Irvine Research Medal in 2003 for his remarkable contributions to spinal cord research.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry was an avid art and teapot collector. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was baking bread from hand milled flour to tackling home projects or creating unique pieces. He also appreciated a good glass of wine or scotch and cherished camping trips with his family. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
Private services will be held for Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation or the Wings for Life Foundation in his honor.
