I met Lorraine in 1990 when I moved in with Erin for graduate school at Ohio State. She was always smiling and laughing and was genuinely interested in our lives. She welcomed me to family holidays and home visits and I remember her as a great cook and have several of her recipes. Her Pepperoni Roast recipe always made us laugh because we renamed it Lorena Roast after the Lorena Bobbitt criminal case. In graduate school, I once washed dishes with a washcloth (there were no clean dishtowels available). Erin, completely disgusted by this, and I argued and debated (and laughed) over whether this was appropriate or hygienic. Erin later consulted Lorraine, the tie breaker, who sided with Erin. I claim mother-daughter bias and stand by my action. Reading her obituary, I realized that many of Lorraine's traits are a legacy passed to my sweet and thoughtful friend, Erin. I will always be indebted to Lorraine who was truly generous with her greatest loves, her children. Many prayers to Erin, Heather, and Kevin during this challenging time. Lorraine's love for them was powerful, unconditional, and deeply caring. May God grant them peace in the days ahead.
PS I just read the condolence note from Jason Bush that said Lorraine made grilled cheese with an iron. I could have definitely used this tidbit to bolster my argument in the great washcloth debate! Love, Kelly and Dave Wallace
