Marie, known to her family and friends as "Marie", "Mom", and "Oma", was born on November 11, 1931, the daughter of the late Stefan Baumgartner and Anna Yorgovski. Marie has joined her predeceased husband, Gottfried “Fritz” Seiler, whom she married October 8, 1950. She leaves her two sons Fred Seiler of Fairview Park and Karl Seiler (Emmi) of Columbia Station; her two daughters Anne Chojnacki of Rocky River and Christine Surber (Larry) of Westlake; a brother Anton “Tony” Baumgartner (Ursula) of Fairview Park; ten grandchildren (Amanda, Scott, Monica, Matt, Dave, Joe, Christa, Katy, Rachel, and Sam); and fifteen great grandchildren (Andrew, Zach, Grace, Jacob, Lexi, Jameson, Conner, Lily, Casen, Tyler, Reagan, Lily, Reece, Jimmy, and Jackson). Marie is predeceased by her two brothers, Michael and Stefan Baumgartner of Austria and her grandson Ray Chojnacki of Rocky River.
Marie was born in Yugoslavia and married Fritz in Austria. They had all intentions of making their life in Austria and were building their home when Fritz and Onkel Tony received letters offering them the opportunity to come to America. Marie followed Fritz and Onkel Tony to America with two toddlers, Fred and Anne, plus a six-week-old baby, Karl. If you knew Marie, you’ve heard the story a few times. We admire their courage and resolve to start a new life in a new country – and without knowing any English. The family thanks the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons (ATS) for sponsoring our family in 1956. Marie dedicated much of her time to the Sachsenheim Hall, Branch 4, participating in the Eintracht Saxonia Sachsenchor, helping to cook for events, and had many years of dancing and merriment at the hall. She loved spending time with her family and taking all the kids to the hall to learn about their German heritage. Marie also spent many years gardening and crocheting, she was a fabulous cook and baker, and she loved her neighborhood cats. Marie/Mom/Oma will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.
Our family requests that in lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve at https://p2p.onecause.com/hwr/donate. They were so very helpful and kind to Marie and our family during our time of need and they were there, by our sides, supporting us through every step of Marie’s final journey. They are angels. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
