Dr. Otto N. Bernath's Obituary
Otto N. Bernath M.D., age 88, was born April 4, 1932 in Budapest, Hungary. He passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on January 22, 2021.
Otto earned his medical degree from the University of Medical Science in Budapest. He married Melinda in 1956. As newlyweds, Otto escaped during the Hungarian Revolution in October 1956 to begin a new life in America. They recently celebrated their 64th anniversary.
Otto began his medical career in Alabama as a surgical house physician and completed his internship and family practice residing at Barberton Citizen’s Hospital.
Otto started his private practice in Mogadore, OH in 1962. He was a medical instructor at Neoucom and a diplomat of the American Acadamy for Family Practice Board from 1970-1992. Other medical achievements include A Fellow of American Acadamy of Family Practice in 1986 and Medical Director of Lorantffy Care Center in Copley since its opening in 1976.
He was an active member of Hungarian Reformed Church in Copley. In addition to his passion of caring for his patients and being a physician, he loved fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing, traveling, photography, playing Bridge with friends, gourmet cooking, making homemade pasta, and entertaining, especially making people laugh with his jokes.
Otto is survived by his loving wife, Melinda, his ever-loving daughters, Linda and Julie, grandchildren, Nic, Mike, May and Max and his sister, Angela who lives in Hungary.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 3-5 PM at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333; where the Memorial Service will begin at 5 PM. Private family inurnment at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, OH.
The family suggests that donations may be made to Summa Hospice, 141 N Forge St. Akron, OH 44304.
